When I’m not in the hospital or studying, there’s a good chance you can find me in the gym. I’m a competitive Olympic-style weightlifter–that means I compete in the snatch and clean and jerk, the lifts you see performed in the Olympics. I started in 2015 when I was in college and since then I’ve competed in 7 national meets, including one during my first year of medical school. I train in the tiny basement gym of our student housing building, where I’m also on the student gym committee! Weightlifting gives me an identity and community outside of medicine, and my goal is to continue qualifying for and competing in the two major national meets each year until I start residency.
